It all started so innocently. I was going to the free 4th of July
concert at Chicago's Grant Park to see They Might Be Giants. My
girlfriend and I stopped at the Taste of Chicago for some food before
making our way to the grassy knoll (not of JFK fame...) As we entered the grounds, there was a booth setup for WXRT 93.1 FM , the radio station sponsoring the concert. As a recent college graduate, I was grabbing things left and right as if I were in a money chamber for 30 seconds. Initially, the WXRT window stickers grabbed my attention, but after some time, the sweet look and great tagline "93 XRT Radio Chicago" slowly won me over to the refrigerator magnets as my favorite tchochki. From that point forward, I would begin collecting refrigerator magnets from everywhere that I visit! My refrigerator is now well covered with a collage of my favorite magnets that only now can be shared with the world... |
|
Distinguishing Feature |

Comments |
Following Kozmo's demise, these are now collector items. I think
that the refrigerator magnet was a great idea, but what was the cost for
all those free magnets? |
|
Name |
Moose Warning |
|
Where Acquired |
Bergen, Norway |
|
|
Distinguishing Feature |
Silhouette of a moose inside the international symbol of warning. |

Anytime the country is spelled according to the local language, the coolness
factor gets multiplied by 2. Being used to seeing these signs with
deer inside, I find some humor with the moose featured. |

Name |
Chilean Musician |
|
Where Acquired |
Santiago, Chile |
|
|
Distinguishing Feature |
Colorful recreation of the one man bands that play songs in the parks of
Chile. |
|
|
Comments |
These entertainers seem to be most popular in Vina del Mar and are quite
good at holding a complex tune for hours on end. I typically don't
like their entertainment value much, but this magnet has great colors and
reminds me of the great impressionist works of the 1800's. |

Merry Viking cheerily shouting incomprehensible Norwegian phrase "UFF DA!" |
|
|
Comments |
I love the cartoon nature of this magnet and given that Norway is one of
my absolute favorite countries because of the friendly people and beautiful,
untouched landscape, this is my favorite magnet. |
